About the Program

Kyle Martin will be speaking about the need for Adequate Disclosure on Gift Tax Returns filed since 1997. The concern is that many tax return preparers are still unaware of the law passed as part of the 1997 Tax Act and only file returns which lack the required information. When this happens, the 3 Year Statute of Limitations does not begin to run and these tax returns can be opened years later. Kyle will demonstrate the check list for return preparers and appraisers to use. Kyle will also review pitfalls with filing both Estate and Gift Tax returns: Form 706 and Form 709.

About the Speaker

Kyle Martin is a Supervisory Attorney in the Estate and Gift Tax Division at the IRS and has been with the Service since 1989. He is a California Lawyer and works in Oakland, CA.
